Oh. To be a sub...

and a long term one at that......

That's right, your's truly is now the IT person at the junior high school where she substitutes. At the last minute (well almost), the old IT person resigned. So, while they interview and try to hire someone to fill her spot (I'm assuming IT teachers are hard to find?), I am it.

Actually, I'm really excited about this. It's a chance (last one) to see if my desire to go back to school to teach is really what I want to do with my life. The other teacher is really rather stressed, but I'm trying to make it as easy on her as possible. I like her. So far, we get a long pretty well.

Our goal is to make it one week at a time. Yes. One week. Since we have no idea when the district will hire a person to be in that classroom, we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. I agree with that because I don't want to get all excited about an upcoming project only to not be able to complete it with the students.

Today is the first half day of school and because we are considered "specials" there will be no kids in our rooms other than tours that may come through for the 6th graders. Did I mention my twin girls are 6th graders? Oh yes.... and they are students at the same school I'm subbing for. The poor kids.

So, to all the substitutes, as you begin your year with teachers and students. May you ride the wave of rough spots and savor the smooth ones all with the patience of a saint. Live. Learn. Share.

A New Beginning.

A little about the blog:

Here's how it starts. I had occasionally started blogging on another blog about my days as a substitute teacher and decided recently that I would prefer it be totally separate from the original blog. Since school is getting ready to start there isn't a better time to switch it up and start a whole new blog all about my days as a substitute.

I won't ever use my own name, the student's names I write about, or what school I am subbing at (all of that to protect those that I do come in contact with, not to mention it's probably a law somewhere). However, I WILL make up names as I need to so that I can still maintain the essence of what is going on.

A little about me:

Hi! I'm the Roving Sub! I started subbing in January of last school year (2008 - 2009) after completing my bachelor's degree and being unable to land a full time job. I have enjoyed it so much that starting in the Spring of 2010 I am going back to school to get my teacher's certificate. How long that will take I won't know for awhile, but be sure that you'll hear about it here.

I am a bit "older" than your typical fresh out of college student. I'm 38. I'm divorced. I have children. I also have a boyfriend. He's younger, lives 900 miles away, and is in the Navy. As far as the kids go, there are three of them to be exact. All girls. My oldest daughter is 16, she will be getting her drivers license at the end of this week (God help us all) and she will be a sophomore in high school. I also have (brace yourselves) twins. These two little "angels" will be starting the 6th grade, and what is probably worse for them, they are starting this at the school which I mostly do my substitute teaching at.

So now you know what to expect, right? Good. I enjoy writing and this will be a great release for me as I write about my adventures as a substitute for you.

Now, it's time to get to work, sit in your chairs, feet on the ground, and prepare to laugh, cry, and sometimes sit in complete awe as I describe my days.
